Read the books by Zecharia Sitchin they are fascinating. He probably isn't right about everything but he's on to something and the sumerian texts are a vital part of his theory.

Is the bible plaigiarized from Sumerian/Egyptian texts?
by Black Man ini haven't had the opportunity to research this deeply, but i've heard many critics/scholars assert that the bible is nothing more than plaigiarisms from ancient sumerian/edyptian texts (which i can definitely believe).
those texts have flood legends, genesis account, and various other stories that make their appearance in the bible.
i'd love to go into this rabbit hole and hope some of the scholarly minds here on jwn will guide me to some info on this.

What do the Pioneer's say when they leave my house?
by PenelopePaige ini've always wondered what they must say when they leave my house.
i did a bible study for a while and of course, at christmas i had a big tree and all the trimmings.
i have some nude sculptures in my house and angel sculptures on my lawn, plus lots of religious shrines around my house that my friend who is an artist makes and gives to me.

They definately talk about you when they leave and wonder if you'll get rid of all your stuff and make "progress" and they discuss how long they'll continue with you if you don't change. They don't really want to stop visiting you because having studies makes them look good and is more interesting than door to door. however, after a year or so they will find it difficult to keep milking the study and will eventually give you an ultimatum.

Is the Watchtower "a snare and a racket"?
by Fernando inrascal rutherford, who remains "in good standing" to this day, it seems was quite clear that "all religion"..."is a snare and a racket"..

The watchtower is a snare because sometimes you have to chew off a part of yourself to get away.
It's a racket because racketeering is commonly practiced by the organization shunning is often euphemistically referred to as love.

Oct. 15th WT - Who Should be your Friend to Associate & Recreate With ?
by flipper inwith many of us here on jwn in a fading state trying to stay halfway connected to jw relatives - i thought it would be informative and helpful to know what the wt society is telling jehovah's witnesses about who or who should not be their close friends.
so if you experience even more shunning than normal - this article may be influencing some jw's to do this.
you won't find any new information here- but the wt society is definitely trying to control who witnesses hang out with.. in the article " is your recreation beneficial " ?

They are always raising the level of suspicion. Not only should jw's avoid so called worldly people but even among jw's you have to be constantly monitoring everyone's behavior in a critical way to see if their good enough to be around. It's a world that continues to close in on you till you disappear as a real person.

I've stopped my bible study but....
by PenelopePaige inthe lady i studied with asked if it would be okay if she still brought the magazines by.
i said of course because i do love the awake and watchtower.
well, when she came by last week, she gave me the mags and then as we stood around chit-chatting, i realized we were basically still having the study, only we were standing up instead of sitting in the living room.

many jw's are in fact very nice and decent people and this is something that creates a real problem because their continued friendship will depend on you becoming a witness. If you bond with one of them it will be a issue in the future. She will not continue to visit you indefinately you will have to join or be dropped and she will make herself your best friend if that's what it takes to get you in. So if you have reservations about the information be careful witnesses can be very nice and you can be deceived once you join the handcuffs go on and she will drift away from you to befriend a new "householder".
